What's next at San Francisco Drupal User's Group?

The Drupal Drop in the fog in front of the Golden Gate Bridge

While BADCamp is taking a hiatus in 2021, the San Francisco Drupal community is still committed to providing the high-quality content we all know and love twice a month through SFDUG. We typically meet the second and fourth Thursdays of the month at alternating times to accommodate a wider audience who might be visiting us from other time zones.

Our upcoming lineup:

May 13 - Building a High Availability Environment for Drupal with Azure

With Diego Tejera, CTO & Founder at Rootstack
Microsoft Azure has grown in the last few years and it has proven that it is a solid platform to deploy and scale web applications. In this talk we are going to show how to easily build a HA environment using the different Azure Services and setup automatic deployments using CI tools.

May 26 - Speaker Diversity Workshop

With AmyJune Hineline, Community Ambassador at Kanopi Studios

May 27 - ddev-gitpod a full dev environment in your browser

With Ofer Shaal, Drupal core maintainer
We are at the beginning of a new era, developer experience improvements allow us to focus on what's important. Come see how we change Drupal development and contributions as we know it.

June 10 - Upgrading from D7 to Backdrop CMS

With Jen Lampton co-founder of Backdrop
With Drupal 7 end-of-life nearing, it's time to decide what to do with your old Drupal 7 websites. Upgrading them to Backdrop CMS is a cost-effective way to bring them up to date, without needing to rebuild. Backdrop CMS is the Drupal fork: It's a faster and more feature-rich version of Drupal 7, but with all the bells and whistles you'd expect from a modern CMS. It's both easier to use, and more affordable to maintain!

June 24 - Concurrent Queue Workers for Drupal

With Simon Mora, Tech Lead at Rootstack
Several modules and implementations rely on the Drupal Queue API to process items. These items are usually processed by cron in a single process with an extremely limited throughput. In this talk, we're going to show how to reliably increase the queue performance using multiple workers with a pure-PHP solution and libraries like ReactPHP.

Workshops

In addition to the traditional presentations, this month, we are also hosting a Speaker Diversity workshop Wednesday, May 26, 2-5 pm PT. The goal of this workshop is to help speakers from underrepresented groups prepare to speak at conferences. This will, in turn, helps local meetups, Drupal Camps, and even DrupalCons develop a more diverse speaker roster. The workshop empowers folks to bust through their impostor syndrome and develop a topic, title, pitch, bio, and outline.

Speak at SFDUG!

With that being said, we are always on the lookout for speakers. If you are interested in presenting at SFDUG, please reach out to AmyJune and Mark at sfdrupalusers @ gmail.com
